The Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Festival has ended.

Results were posted.

Sunday was cancelled due to sea state conditions. Sounds like a rare occurence. And considering the size of the swell I saw from Friday, that combined with wind might have been kinda deadly!

I would like to point out from this list a couple of people, only because I’ve been fortunate enough to meet them or swap a few e-mails.

Geoff Jennings placing third in his heat with some serious competition, when some other serious competitors may not have paddled out at all, or not scored. 4th IC Placement and 17th HP Placement.

Dave Johnston rocking first place in almost every single heat! 3rd HP Division.

Jeff Laxier suiting up against the Italians and Dessie McGlinchey in a super competitive heat is pretty awesome, again it looks like some people didn’t even get a ride or paddle out into the soup. So kudos to Jeff for heading out. It looked mean and cold. 14th HP Placement.

The swell definitely picked up for the final day of the surf kayak contest, there were some nice steep faces for the final day. It looks like there was a bit of an onshore wind, but you can’t have everything.

Galen Licht might have won the Santa Cruz Surf Kayak contest, but from what I could see on the highlights, Chris Hobson in his pink Mega Surf Kayak stole the show at 8:04. The thundering heavy metal track is worth enduring for the aerial at that time stamp.

You can also steal a glance of Sean Morley in the IC Men’s final. Look for a white helmet and a red/yellow salsa IC boat.

Here’s to the hope that steamer lane in Santa Cruz California will have some legendary waves for surf kayaking March 26-28th 2010.

And just for those who can’t keep it straight due to the two Santa Cruz’s.

They had the Ocean Spirit Surf Kayak World Championship in Santa Cruz Portugal in 2009. But they also have a Surf Kayak Festival every year in Santa Cruz California. Both have a judged surf contest.

I will be in California prior to the contest, but not during, so I will follow the details online here.
