Course Offerings

As a Level 5 Sea Kayak Instructor with the ACA I can offer a wide variety of courses in different environments.

Sea Kayaking

Sea Kayaking instruction is probably the most popular option. You can do a lot with a sea kayak! Expeditions, day trips, open water surfing, rock gardening, racing/fitness paddling, tide race current play.

Course Offerings.

  • Intro to Paddling Paddlesport fundamentals (3 hrs) – Going forwards, backwards, turning, self-rescue, assisted rescue
  • Directional Control (2 hrs) – All the kinds of turning and control, going sideways and backwards + some edging.
  • Safety & Rescue (2 hrs) – The myriad methods of self & assisted rescue and some towing
  • Rolling (2hrs) – Rolling is a gateway skill for kayaking that opens doors to everything else. This course in 2hr increments is the way to get started.

White Water

White water has surged back in popularity. With access to local white water on the Kalamazoo river and the Rogue river, and the East Race we have great local opportunities to play on moving water in small boats.

– Intro to Moving Water (3 hrs) – this course will get you started on a local waterway in a small white water kayak. Working on basic strokes, crossing current, turning, breaking in and out of eddies and reading white water features.

Surf Kayaking

Surf Kayaking in long or short boats is definitly my passion.

If you’re interested in getting started check out either the intro to moving water or sea kayaking fundamentals and rolling. If you have already started, msg me and we can discuss where to start.
